Gackt 2009

Wuuuuaahhhh it feels like summer today! I can’t believe it got this hot all of a sudden. The other day I was griping about the 50 degree weather, and today it’s a whopping 80-something. I guess summer is here at last, or on it’s way…That time when people begin to split off into two separate groups…the ones that get super antsy and restless, and the ones that are like snakes, and end up getting heat-stroke just from looking at the weather forecast and spend the summer drowning in their own lethargy. Can you guess which I am? Heh…heh…heh…

Summer always makes me wish I had a fancy car with leather seats.

100% Summer

100% Summer

There’s been a lot of interest in Gackt’s 2009 activity recently. Honestly, I don’t blame anyone– I’ve been particularly interested in Gackt’s 2009 activity as well, partly because I’m waiting with the beady-eyed diligence of a vulture for him to release not ten million more singles, but a proper album. GACKTWEWANTANALBUM! Considering his last album, Diabolos, was released a whopping 4 years ago it’s sort of, y’know, about time.  In the meantime, Gackt’s going to release ten million singles. So here we go– Gackt, what have you been doing in 2009??

Well, 2009 marks Gackt’s 10 year anniversary as a solo artist. Gackt keeps threatening that he’s going to retire in 2010, but that’s ridiculous. According to his statements, Gackt tends to run himself to the bone with his work, and has been hospitalized several times for sickness caused by stress and overexertion. But I strongly believe that he has at least 4 more years left to his career. ^^ However, I do respect where he’s coming from. He says he checks in every three years to see about the state of his health, and inspiration. If he no longer feels that he can make powerful music for his fans, then kaput.

Gackt during the Beginning

Gackt during the Beginning

So, fans, keep sending Gackt your support and encouragement and keep following his work. Congratulations, Gackt, on 10 years.

I was reading a review on some of Gackt’s latest singles, which have been getting chewed out pretty bad– unfortunately. Apparently people are clamoring for another Mars– but I think what bothers them most, since it keeps cropping up all over the internet, is not the music Gackt made in 1999…but his blond hair. Is it just me or does it not matter whether Gackt has blond hair or black hair? Is Gackt Japanese or Norwegian? Right.

Gackt in 2009

Gackt in 2009

In an interview of Gackt in 1999, Gackt was asked by the questioner about his current style. Gackt’s straight-faced reply was “vegetable man!” (see upper- left).

I find all the Gackt-fan-hate action really amusing in kind of a morbid way. The whole “I’m his greatest fan, even though he has bad hair, can’t dance, makes a fool of himself, doesn’t have good music and can’t sing, and I’m the greatest judge” and all that crap. Honestly, they should make spambots that can go into websites and delete the word “fan” from every page.

Jesus and Ghost were both great singles. :-)

Starting December 14th, 2008, at the Misato-Bunka assembly hall in Saitama prefecture, Gackt began a national “Visualive” tour called Requiem et Reminiscence II. The tour will end on July 12th. It will finish with two performances (July 11th and July 12th) at the Saitama Super Arena (さいたまスーパーアリーナ) in Saitama prefecture.  ^^ So it goes full-circle, ne?

(By the way, Saitama-prefecture is in the Kantou area of Japan, a little north of Tokyo.)

While Gackt’s been running all over Japan, he’s still pumping out the singles.

It started with Jesus, the dark hard-rock phenom packed with ‘deep questions’,  released 12/03/2008,

JESUS

JESUS

and then came Ghost, the electronic number that paved slightly new territory for the Gackt we know, 1/28/2009,

GHOST

GHOST

and then the Triforce was made complete with Journey Through the Decade, which was not written by Gackt, on 3/25/2009.

JOURNEY THROUGH THE DECADE

JOURNEY THROUGH THE DECADE

All three singles were used as the theme songs to shows.

I guess this is a sign that Gackt has productivity peaks– seeing as his Pre-Jesus latest single was 2007′s Returner, Gackt’s 1st #1 hit on Oricon.

Altogther the three singles have been moody and brooding, giving the impression that Gackt’s been trying a darker style than what he’s done in the past…..dun dun dun black hair! Ppppffffftttt….

If you think Gackt’s Gone Goth, however, think again. Gackt’s gone, er, pop, for summer. Apparently quite ready to get those restless beach-babes basking in audio style and get the snake-like lethargic masochists out from their fan-powered stream of cool air and into the beautiful blaze of cococabana sizzling summer love…. iPod charged, Gackt-packed, and fully ready to power us through the long hot months with four consecutive singles that scream summer.

Yup, starting on 6/10 with “1st heaven”, actually Koakuma Heaven, Gackt begins the 10-year-anniversary-countdown 4-consecutive-singles campaign. Beginning with Koakuma, we’ll then splash our way to “2nd heaven” on 6/17 with Faraway. Then we’ll mosey on to 6/24 and “3rd heaven” Lost Angels….finishing up just in time for fireworks with “anniversary disc” Flower on 7/1.

To my lifetime savings, I say….Sayounara.

I guess that was kind of confusing. I just blasted to summer space like a rocket with all that talk of pop and heaven and beaches… I’m kind of confused too, but since I’ve always trusted Gackt’s decisions in the past to no ill-affect, I’m just going to sit this one out non-judgmentally and see what happens. If you visit Gackt.com, you can hear a couple of samples of the songs (which were apparently performed on the tour?). I listened, and I don’t know about you, but I started getting into this whole heat-wave thing…

And then, to top it off, the album covers are covered with glittering girls like off of the ten-pound fashion magazines you can pick up for 500 yen at your local Lawson. At first I was confused, like “are you sure you got the right album cover?” I thought it was Hamasaki Ayu— WAIT. NO. You didn’t hear that.

I told you...cococabana for sure...

I told you...cococabana for sure...

By 3rd heaven he gets back into the Gackt style with two elegant covers. (And what I mean by that is that he with fantastical angelic appendages attached is featured tastefully. No more blonde women.) You can have a look for yourself (the reason they show two covers per album is because the top album cover is a fan-club only special offer).

The singles are available for pre-order through CDJapan.com. The first-pressing comes with a mini Gackt calendar as a promo gift. ^^

But that’s not all we have to look forward to in 2009. Apparently in the alter-universe Gackt sends half of his soul to while he’s releasing a million singles and touring nearly every day for like 9 months all over the Land of the Rising Sun, he goes off and acts in his first English movie debut: Bunraku. Release date yet to be anounced, directed and written by Guy Moshe.

Gackt will star as the young samurai Yoshi, alongside star Josh Hartnett who I’m sure won’t do anything all that interesting compared to Gackt acting surrounded by an American cast, speaking English. There isn’t much information released about the film, but if I find any as the days go by, it’ll be up here.

If you’re not worried about him going back to natural black hair, then you’ll do what only a good fan can do and nod and smile and turn that “what a weird freaking thing to do…” into a “what a charming display of spontaneity…”

One last important thing I would like to mention before finishing up this post. — Gackt won the “Artist whom people would want to spend most time viewing the cherry blossoms with”. HAH! How true is that. Gackt+10d

Oh, and don’t forget Gackt’s birthday on the 4th of July. :-)

Gacktpause, over and out. X

Get it going now, get it from Japan!

I started adding some affiliate links to Secret Garden. You can find these in the banner section of the sidebar (at the bottom). The links in the blogroll and site-link list are not affiliates of SG. I’m going to do my best to only add affiliates that I have experience with– but in some cases I may add companies I haven’t ordered from but either look interesting/relevant  or I intend to order from personally. :-)

This afternoon my day was split by a joyful ray of sunshine at the advent of JROCK. Yes…I ordered D’s Snow White single (the “a” version with Night Ship “D” as the accompanying song, a DVD of Snow White (not the Disney movie), a poster, and trading card. There were only 8 left when I got mine, so I’m pleased I caught it in time. After I watched the video on youtube I went directly to order it. Alright, enough bragging.). And since my day was truly MADE by this arrival, I would like to spend this evening on a review of my first affiliate, and provider of my glorious new single:

Name: Cdjapan

Country: Japan

Language: English, Japanese, multi-lingual

Ok, try this one: Imagine an Amazon.com…but all Jrock all the time (plus shrunk down a lot). That’s more or less the basis of cdjapan. They have a massive catalog available in multiple languages. At the home page, you should be able to click on a drop-down menu that will select your language and it will automatically translate for you. Seeing as language is probably the biggest barrier for non-Japanese accessing Japanese goods, this already wins Cdjapan major points. :-)

Not only that, but prices were all given in Japanese yen + automatically converted to the USD price (I didn’t test to see if they change the currency depending on your language choice.) at the daily rate– which saved me at least the extra effort of looking up a fishy currency converter which may or may not give me the correct rate.

Also, Cdjapan uses a system of Frequent Shopper Points. Every item that you purchase, they tally up a percentage (I think it’s 3% but I’m not positive), and then show you how many points you’ll get for that item. Each point is worth 1 yen, so say you buy a single and get 53 points– that’s like 56 cents or so. It may not seem like much, but if you bought two singles, that’d be 1$ off your next purchase! And hey, they don’t have to give you anything, do they?

You have the option of creating a user-account with the site– which I highly recommend. When you sign up for an account, they will give you a ‘welcome present’ of a 300 Yen (3$) coupon. Plus, they’ll ask you to register your birthday, and at the beginning of your birthday’s-month, they’ll send you a coupon worth 500 Yen. :-) YOSH! COUPONS! Then when you make purchases, you can save your collected points up on your account and check how many you have. :-) You can also choose to pay with plastic, or you can use Paypal– which I find enormously convenient.

Ok, so we have the technical aspects down. What do they sell? MECHAAAA

What don’t they sell? Magazines, magazine subscriptions (by airmail and very expensive, just FYI– but tempting nevertheless!), CDs, calendars, sheet-music books, clothing, “wabi-sabi” (traditional items), photo books and tour documents, etc etc etc. PRICES: everything is sold at retail price, so your Alice Nine album is going to be the 3,100 Yen ($32.00) that it costs at the CD store in Japan– not the 75$ speciallimitedsuperimport price that places like Amazon slap on ‘em. ISN’T SHIPPING EXTORTIONATE?: Nope. They have about 8 different options, the lowest and cheapest being SAL, which is presumably snail-like in its arrival, but, again, the cheapest option. For me to have one CD shipped to the US, it cost $7.50 for standard air-mail (not SAL). So for one ultra-single at $18.00 plus $7.50 for shipping, we’re talking $25.00 for a Japanese import to be delivered straight to your door hassle-free! Ge-nu-ine! As a matter of fact, I did a little research during my shopping there and found something on Cdjapan on sale for 50% off. At the bargain price, including shipping, I saved about $15 buying directly from Japan. :-)

And did I mention their powers as an outlet for all the Japanese clothing brands it’s otherwise impossibly to buy online outside of Japan? Brands like Algonquins and Sex Pot Revenge whose all-Japanese websites state explicitly that they don’t ship overseas, are actually available to overseas shoppers via Cdjapan. They carry a variety of awesome brands, and have a good selection for each. Plus I was able to find Sex Pot for 75% off.

I ordered my CD on Wednesday night, and they shipped the same day (my Thursday). It then took the minimum time to arrive (a startling 4 days). It was packed in a tidy, nice-fitting box (nothing gargantuan it was going to flop around in madly during transit)– I’m sure they have even more nicely-fitting ones, but since my CD came with a poster, they sized for that. :-) There was an elegant top-layer of tasteful green tissue paper preventing that aforementioned mad flopping. There was a free catalog included that showed some different bands wearing Sex Pot Revenge (being an insane harvester of Jrock imagery, this was a major plus. They will probably end up on my wall.). The CD was cushioned in a little bubble-packet, and both the case and discs were in perfect condition. The poster came rolled up and confined by a neat little roll of paper so no tape touched the precious lamination. It was also…wrapped up in green tissue. By the time I got to that….I was practically weeping– not little tears, but those big fountains anime characters expunge from their humungous eyes. It was like getting a birthday present. Only it is the thing you wanted most. And on a day that is not your birthday.

NOTEWORTHY: At the time of check-out, you can select whether you need “discreet” packaging. They won’t put any company markings on the box/shipping label and so on, if you need to keep it a secret. They do warn, however, that this may incur displeasure from the angry trident-brandishing customs officials, so don’t hold them responsible if said tridents end up stabbing your package. ^^

You can also choose to have the receipt as a gift-receipt, so they won’t show prices.

You can Pre-order CDs/books/etc and they’ll automatically ship the product upon its release, so you won’t have to worry about sitting up till 3AM guzzling gross instant coffee and flipping out over whether you’ll get your copy.

Isn’t that thoughtful?

Conclusion: 5 stars!

My immediate impression of the company was one of the friendliness, generosity, and special care typical of Japanese customer-service which I so horribly miss being back in the US. Just the whole birthday-present-coupon thing made me swell with delight and want to do all of my shopping there forever.

The language options, built-in currency conversion, ability to use Paypal, etc all made the site and shopping there extremely easy, straightforward, and stress-free.

Would you shop with them again?: Absolutely- already placed another order.

Now do yourself a favor and click that banner!

iCloud

Yesterday I went to the computer palace and picked out a computer. I thought for a long time about whether I want a Mac or a PC (I’m usually a PC person [writing this on my Toshiba right now], even though I was raised primarily on Macs). Although I haven’t been through many computers yet, so far I find PCs easier to use for the basics [CTRL + click will kill me on a Mac] plus when I was buying my laptop I already had Word for PC, and Mac + Mac Word = blowing my budget way out of humane proportions! Yiah.

But when I get a new computer, I want a Mac because for one I prefer the way they look (totally biased toward the whole sleek white finish), and just generally they have a nice performance. And at the time of being able to purchase the one I want, Word will hardly be an issue.  I want the 24″ screen.

By the way, I also want an iPhone. Even though I think it’s stupid that everyone has one…when I was in Japan everyone had these excellent aerodynamic, sleek, beautiful Cellphones with a place to hang eight billion straps and anti-brain-cancer charms. They can do almost everything on their cellphones. Texting is basically Mesopotamian it’s so outdated in Japan. They use email instead, and in anime they will often say “meiru wo okutta!” (I sent [him]  an email)  and it’s translated as “I sent him a text message”.  They also have cameras as a pre-req, and they really do take pictures of just about everything. At first I felt kind of embarrassed to want my picture taken with everything, but I always found that whenever I asked a cute group of girls to take my photo, they would usually ask for me to take theirs in return.

Magazines, coupon dispensers, bus-schedules, and just about everything else in Japan also has these little barcodes printed on them. People take pictures of the barcodes with their phones (not exactly sure how it works) and the phone downloads the information (coupons, websites, bus-schedules, etc.) In most magazines they will list the website URL, and beside it have one of these nifty barcodes so you can go there directly from your phone.

NTT Docomo's waterproof delight

NTT Docomo's waterproof delight

Then I came back to the US and all the cellphones are fat and clunky and prehistoric in their capabilities. Internet is elite, email is very different from the Japanese phones’ version, and texting is still barely ‘in’ (yeah, I have actually met people under 25 who still don’t have texting). And the worst part of all….my phone doesn’t have a place for straps. You end up collecting tons of straps while shopping in Japan (sometimes they will give them to you as gifts if you spend a lot of money in stores, or they’re prizes from vending machines, etc.) I bought a few for souveneirs, but unfortunately couldn’t collect any for myself. :-( I ended up attaching them to my keychains because my phone would rather I got brain-cancer.

[ Image: NTT Docomo, a leading phone brand in Japan, released a delightful ultra-thin, bubble-gum pink (I'm sure there are different colors) waterproof superultraomega TRAAAAANSSSSFOOOOORMER.....phone. Even though the phones are typically longer than most American phones, they're super thin and sleek, and altogether excellent to behold. I think they're designed basically to look good with the typical Japanese manicure :-}]

These hands...that phone :-)

These hands...that phone :-)

So anyway, the reason that I want an iPhone is that it has all kinds of cool capabilities…and that’s what I want. Although honestly, after I watched Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, I’ve seriously prefered a phone with a lid…

There’s actually a rumor running around that AC was just one big cell-phone advertisement…which it was. Being a rampant fan of the FF franchise and an ardent defender of Advent Children at large, I just find this enormously amusing. It’s like the most demented incarnation of materialistic Japanese fan-service…Didn’t everyone want to see Cloud Strife on a cellphone? I know I did! Between Cloud (who uses his phone about the same way I do– as a one-way answering machine), Tifa on her landline, the bishi brothers, and the scene where Vincent shows up to buy a phone in Midgar pre-ultimatum, the characters of AC actually spend more time on the phone than doing anything else. Cloud’s character arcs (although that sentence is generally accepted as an oxymoron) are expressed mainly through what he does to his phone. I guess it’s an interesting depiction of Japan’s materialistic reliance on their cellphones.

Cloud on his Panasonic :D

Panasonic Japan even ran a campaign using Cloud Strife as the poster-boy, selling the same model he uses in AC. I wonder if the makers of AC got funding from them…? People scoff, but it’s actually really common for this kind of product advertising to appear in anime and manga. After all, manga and anime actually started out as nothing more than creative advertising, and the basis lives on today.

I wonder what kind of phone Sephiroth has? An iPhone?

Actually, on that note, although the iPhone has WOOED and WOWED most of the world, it hasn’t done that well in Japan and IT IS NOW BEING OFFERED FOR FREE. Yup, for FREE. The tech company and sole-carrier of the iPhone in Japan, Softbank, started a campaign called “iPhone for Everybody” where they give away the 8GB model iPhone for free if customers sign the 2-year contract[1]. There are also issues in Japan concerning the company Softbank. Apparently Softbank is hard-pressed to meet the much-loved NTT DoCoMo company[2]. Maybe Apple will expand its distribution possibilities to help sales? Some people think Softbank was an odd choice for Apple. :-/

The Japanese consider their cellphones as much a fashion-accessory as a technical device, and on average buy a new phone every 1.5 to 2 years. The real tech freaks may change every six months,  so they always have the newest model. We go from fashion to fashion with each season, and the Japanese do the same– but incorporate their cellphones as part of the equation. However, like in the US, people were getting the phones “for free” (paying for it over a period of time as part of the contract price), and didn’t necessarily realize how much the actual phones cost. The average cellphone in Japan costs around or over 30,000 Yen (just a little over $300.00).[3]

Although there has been a lot of press on Japan’s national hatred of the iPhone, according to AppleInsider.com, this has been inflated in the particular sensationalist attitude of the contemporary news. It was attacked on the basis of several projected-sales figures that had apparently not actually been expressed by either Apple or Softbank. The fundamental issues don’t seem to lie in the product itself, but rather the economy, the price, and possibly cultural needs not being met.  A Japanese journalist, Hayashi, who did several interviews and made extensive comments concerning the iPhone said he’s the “proud owner of one”, but he also carries “other phones which he can use to pay for subway fares, taxis, and food.”

The people riding the hate-train however, claimed that what the Japanese hated about the iPhone was “Almost everything: the high monthly data plans that go with it, its paucity of features, the low-quality camera, the unfashionable design and the fact that it’s not Japanese.”[4] And while other sources state that this is inflated information based on a minority opinion, I personally think that it’s a combination of things. I agree with the statements made on the more economic reasons why the iPhone has not done as well in Japan as in other countries, but I also can’t say it’s not entirely true about the Japanese and their attitude toward foreign electronics. I really have to say that until I hear it from non-business, non-journalist Japanese….I’ll fall somewhere in between.

Hehe, on a slightly funnier note, I have a Japanese friend who got an iPhone. He loved it, but also expressed a few limitations of use (maybe the taxis and food?), and mentioned that the Japanese didn’t like the iPhone because texting required two hands. I can understand why this would be a serious concern for the Japanese, being absolute freaks at cellphone text creation. He also mentioned that he was going to starve in order to pay for it.

Ju-Ken The Bass

The Bassist Who Wanders Endlessly

…Possibly one of the coolest people in the Jrock world, and one of the most in-demand bassists in Japan: Ju-Ken.

His nickname “Ju-Kyu en” (19 yen) may be cute, but it has nothing to do with Ju-Ken’s worth as a bass-player. Although a prolific session-musician, the man, self-named as The Bassist Who Wanders Endlessly, best known for his collaboration with GACKT in Gacktjob, has worked with the majority of big-names in Jrock.

Ju-Ken 'The Bass'

Ju-Ken 'The Bass'

Along with Gacktjob, a few acts he has been associated with are: Anna Tsuchiya, Nakashima Mika, Vamps (with Hyde of L’arc-en-Ciel), Day After Tomorrow, Hotei Tomoyasu, Sayaka, Inoran (of Luna Sea), m.o.v.e, and Fake? (also with Inoran).

After the departure of former-bassist Ren, Ju-Ken began his Gacktjob career in 2003, with the album Crescent, and has been Gackt’s primary bassist since, appearing on most recordings and touring live with Gacktjob.

[Gackt's DruGparty live performance in 2007]

In-between Gackt projects, Ju-ken gets around… a lot. He performs with Anna Tsuchiya on her Inspi’Nana projects, and toured with her in 2007 for the Blood of Roses live. He wandered for a while with Hotei Tomoyasu for the Hotei and The Wanderers Funky Punky Tour 2007-2008, and performed live with VAMPS in 2008. Through 2009, Ju-Ken seemed to take a bit of a break from his Gacktjob work, but was able to appear for part of GACKT’s Requiem et Reminiscence II Visual Tour(12/08-7/09).

In 2007, Gackt joined up briefly with Yoshiki of X Japan, SUGIZO of Luna Sea (now solo), and Miyavi, to form the “superband” S.K.I.N which debuted at the Long Beach convention in L.A.. Yoshiki wanted to bring the ‘greatest names in Jrock’ together to form this mastermind group that would wreck the universe with its power. Turns out things got a little rough at the end, and it was practically not until the concert that they announced the bassist: Ju-Ken, of course. Nothing much has been said of the super-band since, and to some degree, we heave a sigh of relief. There’s a reason all those artists had to go solo after all…

On January 12th, 2008, Ju-Ken co-founded the hard-rock band Quintillion Quiz along with Changin’ My Life‘s lady-vocals myco, and guitarist Masanori Mine. Although no album has been released, “QQ” has held several lives, and released the limited-pressing of their first single, Midnight Express QQQ/ Killer Rouge, which was distributed in a small batch.

Ju-Ken has an incredibly unique sense of style, both on and off stage. His trademark wild dance moves, head-banging, and dramatic twirling of his upright-basses are always instantly recognizable, and so unselfconscious-ly bad-ass it’s always a refreshing sight to see. The guy has crazy attitude– and yet, behind that intimidating exterior there’s always the killer bassist who loves what he does and is always having fun.

Ju-ken plays on 5-string Sugi and Fender basses, switching between electric and upright as needed. He collects boots, rides Harleys, surfs, and mentions Fall Out Boy as one of his favorite bands. He was born in Funabashi, Chiba-prefecture, Japan (near Tokyo) on June 27th, 1971. His blood type is B.

Video of the Month: Snow White/D

Live performance of D‘s  “Snow White

Out of all the videos I’ve watched in…well, probably all year, to be honest, I have to say this live footage of D’s Snow White was overall the most striking out of everything. The visuals are low-key, the sound quality is really bad– altogether it’s more or less like watching it through a hazy film, and the song itself is pretty mellow– but despite all this, I haven’t seen anything so striking in a good while. Sure, I’ve heard a lot of songs that beat Snow White in amazing-factor, and seen some incredible live footage that trump its visuals, but still…

Here it is: it is a performance that would have made Malice Mizer proud– in their Gackt days, no less. It was the quintessential Visual-Kei performance. Asagi comes out of this unidentifiable object– something like a cross between a chandelier, a coffin, a bouquet, and a garden arbor. As he sings, he slowly descends the stairs to the stage where ‘rose-bushes’ have been arranged, and the band stands calmly. He is dressed in an elaborate ensemble that would make Snow White weep. By the peak of the song, Asagi has reached the stage and stands there, doing little but hold the mic and sing. Through most of the song, snow is falling on the stage, encouraging the gentle moodiness of the piece and the atmosphere together. They have arranged the performance perfectly to both capture the ideal of the Visual performance, and to support the perfect ballad.

The use of piano created just the romantic melancholy the whole thing was screaming for, and the way they eased into the other instruments was delightful and well-timed. It all melded neatly with the vocals, and got more rockish as it went on without disturbing the tempo or feeling. I really enjoyed the way they tied the piano and vocals to the music with the bass line.

The vocals were some of the most original I’ve heard– again, in quite a while. The way he begins beautifully– but in standard Asagi style (although he does let up a bit to suit the mood and melody), and then when he hits the chorus– well, just listen to it and you’ll see. Opera-rockers are shaking in their boots right now– and rightly so. Dhas really earned honors with this one. Not only is it a beautiful new ballad– Asagi rocks Visual-kei’s European-opera roots right down to its lace stockings. That ‘experimental’ use of a totally different vocal style is what absolutely makes the whole song.

At the end, Asagi hollers out to the audience in his usual majestically macho fashion– but after the initial ‘return to cool Visual-kei kingship’, he dips right back into that well we just basked in and murmurs softly, Arigatou, thus creating the perfect conclusion. So even though he breaks the spell, as it were, he brings us right back into the magic with that one little word.

Positively brilliant.

Snow White can be found on the single Snow White. It is D‘s latest addition, fresh off the press January 21st, 2009. They’ve really polished up since going major, which you can see clearly when listening to Snow White and Birth and then going back to their older stuff…everything is crisper, cleaner, and have they even gone anti-hero? Oh who knows. Their newest single is truly a beauty– down to the album cover. The single comes with the songs Snow White, Snow White ~ Another Gift (an upbeat, faster, rock version of the song),  Night Ship “D”  (Live Version), Snow White (Voiceless).
